I. Photography – Youth Category

Felicitas Maschke (17) and Lorna Bittner (17), Germany

     Photograph entitled “The Silent Scream”
     from a photo series

About the work: There is repression, injustice and violence all over the world. Most of the time those affected have no rights and no chance to defend themselves. The victims of such abuse are helpless and cannot escape – this is portrayed with a “silent scream” – forcing oneself not to cry out in defense out of fear.

I. Photography – Amateur Adult Category

Peter Schöllbauer, Austria

Photograph entitled “The Poor Teddy Rabbit”
     from a photo series

The photograph becomes a symbol showing how children’s feelings (such as love for a stuffed animal) – and even if only from thoughtlessness – are trampled on. A clear pictorial language which is easy to understand.

II. II. Short Films – Amateur Adult Category

Alexander Busse, Germany

     Short film "Freunde schaffen Freundschaft
     (Friends create friendship)

In this straightforward documentary the filmmaker describes various criteria for friendship which prompts the opposite behavior – such as hate and violence – with many people. Particularly noteworthy in this submission was the zest for conversation, the ability to create a well-rounded film with simple words as well as the apt title.

II. II. Short Films – Amateur Adult Category

Robert Hoffmann, Germany
Short film "Mein neuer Freund" (My new friend)

Students majoring in psychology at Münster University clearly addressed some of the problems which often develop from computer games. Playing the games results in more and more social isolation because computer games become “the best friend,” night and day. As can be seen, this “new friend” cannot help with homework or help with grasping the subject matter, a drop in performance is unavoidable.

This is a protest against random abuse, repression and the denial of rights to people, a state of affairs which is still dominant in many countries. If people do not rise up to oppose this, nothing changes, what is left behind is sorrow, pain, and unending suffering of having lost loved ones.
